Claude W. Renwick

March 2, 1927 – March 11, 2011



Claude W. Renwick, 84, of South Bend died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 in Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.  Mr. Renwick was born March 2, 1927 in Custer, MI to the late Ethel M. (Holly) and Claude E. Renwick and had lived in South Bend since 1954.  On April 20, 1956 in Nappannee, IN he married Olive “Lou” Huff who survives.  Also surviving are his daughter, Susanne M. Lamb (James) of Chesterton, IN; three grandchildren, Colleen Laderer (Jeff) of South Bend, Shannon McFarland (Alana) of Plymouth, IN, and Mandy Arocha of Chesterton; and six great-grandchildren, Meredith, Caroline, Haley, Amanda, Susie, and Lucy.  Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Arleith Thompson, Maxine Renwick, Evelyn Pike, and Laverle Renwick; and his brother, Charles Renwick.  Claude was a US Navy Veteran during World War II.  He served in the Pacific Theater and was involved in the liberation of the Philippines.   After the war Claude also served in the US Merchant Marines before beginning his career at the South Bend Tribune.  He served as union steward and foreman of the pressroom until his retirement in 1989 after 37 years.  He became a member of the South Bend Tribune’s 25 Year Club and enjoyed reminiscing with old friends and co-workers.  He was a gifted man in carpentry and mechanics and also enjoyed gardening for many years.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was an honorable man of high character who set an example for his family to follow.  Funeral services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, March 15th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Pastor James Motshagen of The Dwelling Place, Valparaiso, IN, officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Rd., Mishawaka, IN, 46545.  Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at
