 Marialyce M. Riedle

Feb. 5, 1925 - May 27, 2018

SOUTH BEND - Marialyce Matthews Riedle died peacefully in her sleep on May 28, 2018. On February 5, 1925 she was born in Chicago, IL to Bertha and Guy Matthews. She grew up in Chicago and spent many summers in Hartford, MI at the family's much beloved farm.

She was married in 1950 to Frank Andrew Riedle. It was the beginning of an everlasting love of marriage, family, and faith that spanned 45 years. Marialyce was the mother of 11 children. She was proud of being a homemaker and considered it her impressive achievement. She always managed to send everyone a special St. Nicholas gift every holiday season. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her sister, Justine “Dusty” Bibeau; her brother, Guy “Bonz” Matthews; and several of her precious children, Guy, Matthew, Frank, and Mary Alice.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Rock (Joan), Joseph (Mary Ellen), Christina (John-deceased), Martin (Donna), Kate (Mike), Jack, and Steve. Also surviving are 14 cherished grandchildren, Roxanne (Andy), Grace, Andrew (Marielle), Nick, Colleen (Brad), John, Kevin, River, JoAnne, Matthew, Joe, Brendan (Jessica), Caitlin, and Jenny. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Kaelan, Ben, Delilah, and one on the way.

Marialyce attended Rosary College in Chicago in her youth and graduated with her Bachelors degree from St. Mary's of the Woods when she was in her fifties, after she raised her children. She also worked for AM General in South Bend as a contract specialist for ten years. She was an active volunteer at St. Patrick's and in the South Bend community. Marialyce touched so many lives with her caring strength, intellect, and memorable smile.

The entire family would like to thank all the people who loved and cared for Marialyce in her last years - especially, Geneva Sanders and the many dedicated professionals at Allison Meadows in Fishers, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 309 S. Taylor St. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St.

I send my blessings to the family of Mrs. Riedle, as I referred to her, even the last time I saw her and she said I could call her Marialcye. And I was Susie to her on Park Avenue. What good friends our families were as we grew up. May she rest in peace after a full life with family and friends.
