Dec. 28, 1985 - Sept. 14, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Zachary Eli “Zak” Neiman, 31, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was born on December 28, 1985, to Alven Neiman and Anne Kellenberg True.

Zak graduated from Saint Joseph High School in 2004, where he loved competing in quiz bowl. He earned a B.A. in English from Earlham College (Richmond, IN) in 2008, during which time he studied for a semester in London, England, and worked as a classic rock DJ for Earlham's radio station. Zak was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan known for his kind, quiet nature and his love for family and dogs. He had a great interest in baseball, history, politics, literature, music, and film, and his knowledge on a variety of subjects seemed limitless. Zak was a very generous and thoughtful gift-giver as well, and he traveled extensively with his family. He loved his family more than anything in the world, and they love him back. Zak spent several summers working for the South Bend Silver Hawks baseball team and spent a summer working at Camp Millhouse. He also worked in production for the South Bend Tribune from 2011-2016. Most recently, he studied accounting and business at Indiana University South Bend.

He is survived by his parents, his step-father Greg True, two sisters, Elizabeth Neiman and Hayley True, a brother, Dan True, grandparents Mildred Neiman Korach, Malcolm Korach, Catherine Kellenberg, and Betty Ann True, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

I'm so deeply saddened to hear of Zak's passing. I haven't spoken to him in some time, but I have extremely fond memories of him from our high school and college years. We loved arguing about movies and he always made me laugh. He had such a wonderful, unassuming sense of humor. He was very present in conversation, and he was genuine and kind. He truly wished the best for people. I will sorely miss him and I send my deepest condolences to his family.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful son. We were once briefly introduced to each other when Anne & I ran into each other shopping. He struck me as a very genuine person who was proud to be his mothers son. To all of the Kellenberg's & True families, you have my deepest and sincere sympathy & Love.

I know that the pain and sorrow you feel of such a great loss is hard to bear. But may the happier times of so many years, help calm the grief and pain that you feel, and when you feel the need for comfort from all the pain, just remember those fond memories you shared. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. Isaiah 25: 8a; Revelation 21:3, 4.
