 Elizabeth “Liz” Owens
July 14, 1937 – March 20, 2017

Liz Owens, age 79, passed away in the family home surrounded by relatives and friends on March 20th after a brief illness.
She was born on July 14, 1937, in Brazil, IN, to William and Elizabeth (Martin) Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rosemary and her brother Bill. She is survived by her daughter Anne Thacker (Max) of South Bend, IN; her son Mark Owens (Karen) of Wexford, PA; and her granddaughter Sydney Owens of Indianapolis, IN.
Liz was the first member of the family to attend college, getting her BS in Education from IUSB in 1972. She worked for 26 years in various capacities for the St. Joseph County Child Protective Services, retiring in 2000. Throughout her life she exhibited intellectual curiosity, appreciation of a variety of art forms, and a love for companion animals and wildlife.
A memorial service in honor of Liz’s life will be held at the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, IN, on Saturday, March 25. Friends and family may call from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, with a brief service to follow.
