SOUTH BEND - Pauline Joyce Nivens, 87, of South Bend died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, March 18th in Morningside Memory Care surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Nivens was born November 16, 1929 in South Bend to the late Blanche (Gilbert) and Christ Vlahakis and was a lifetime area resident. On September 28, 1947 in South Bend, as Pauline J. Vlahakis she married Dale R. Nivens who preceded her in death in 2003. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Nivens in 1955 and siblings, Ellen Doetsch, Christ Vlahakis, and John Knapp. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy A. Freese (Curtis) and Sandy Camparone (Glen) both of South Bend; her son, Terry D. Nivens (Darlene) of South Bend; grandchildren, Christopher D. Camparone (Julie), Amanda Niedosik (Martin,) Steven D. Nivens, and Meagan Nivens; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pauline was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation as a playground aid and cafeteria worker. She and Dale were avid bowlers and spent many nights at the alley. She was also an accomplished volleyball player. Pauline spent many hours in her garden enjoying the flowers and the birds in her yard. But most of all she loved spending time crawling around with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private family gathering and funeral service to celebrate Pauline's life will be held at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

I will miss my dear, sweet Aunt Pauline. She enjoyed the simple things in life and was always there for her family. I'm sure my mom, her sister, was there to meet her and I bet they are all playing euchre together. My deepest sympathy is with all of you as you cope with your loss. Love, Your cousin Kathy
