 Clara Newton

Clara I. Newton, 80, of South Bend passed away at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in her residence, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Clara is survived by her husband, George, and they just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on December 11th. Clara was born in Worthington, Ohio, but her family soon thereafter moved to the Michiana area, where she has lived her entire life. She worked for many years with the Salvation Army and worked for 17 years at International Bakers Services. Clara attended Community Church, in South Bend.


George and Clara have two daughters, Vicky Everett (Douglas) of Vallejo, CA, Becky Bode (Dennis) of South Bend; son, Jerry Newton (Marilynne) of Santa Cruz, CA; three grandchildren, Jeremy Bode, Mandy Anderson (Robert), and Robert Stewart of San Diego, CA; step-grandson, Kyle Everett, of Vallejo, CA; a great-granddaughter, Honey Rose Jachimiak; two sisters, Norma Shaffer and Mildred Dudeck; and brother, William Shaffer.


Clara was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Amy and Melissa Chodzinski; a great-grandson, Ashton Jachimiak; and her siblings Marion Schantz, Lauretta Lalime, and Albert Shaffer, Jr.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3rd in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Committal services and entombment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. today, December 31st, in the funeral home.

Dear George & Family:

Annie & I are so sorry to hear about Clara's home going. Sorry we could not attend the funeral or visitation, but please know that our prayers are with you and the family. We all know that Clara is at permanent peace with her Lord, and one day we will all join her there. PTL... Again, we love you all and pray you also find continued peace in the celebration of Clara's life.

I read in the paper this morning of the passing of Clara and called my father Jimmie Holloman as he winters in Cocoa Beach, FL to tell him of the news and he wanted to send his prayers for George and the family at this time of your loss.

loved Clara. I would have come to the visitation but I have a terrible cold
and I know that you would like to catch it from me.
