SOUTH BEND - Jane Elizabeth Shimp, 87, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, July 2, 2016. She was born June 4, 1929, in Peoria, IL, to the late Florence Percival and Joel Martin. She was married 62 years to James Shimp, who died January 5, 2016. Living in South Bend for more than 50 years, Jane and Jim owned and operated Shimp Roofing Inc. located in Roseland. She was very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She served in both organizations as Den Mother, pack and troop leader. She helped to establish Boy Scout Troop #433. Jane was a member of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction).She was instrumental in organizing and participating in such projects as Habitat for Humanity, Block Kids, and constructing South Bend's “Santa Claus” house. Rug hooking was Jane's passion. She designed and created many rugs, wall hangings and unique items for family and friends. She was one of a group of women whom together hooked banners from THE BOOK OF CONFESSIONS. They hang in Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Bend. She was also 1 of 3 women who hooked “The Seal of the Seminary” which is displayed at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky. Her artistic abilities also included wood carving and rock sculpting. She loved her family and shared a fun sense of humor.

Jane is survived by her son, George (Su) Shimp of Otisco, IN; and daughters, Janis (Geoff) Collier of Indianapolis, IN, Jackie (Mark) Crimi of Elkhart, IN, Jill Dincolo of New South Whales, Australia; four grandchildren, James Robert (Tara) Shimp, Sarah (Adam) Mudd, Brandon Crimi, Auston Crimi; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Callie Shimp, Harper and Emerson Mudd. She is also survived by sisters, Mary Graack and Joanne Mielke, both in Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, July 8, 2016, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., with Pastor Brian Whidden officiating. Following services as her wishes cremation will take place in Welshemer Crematory. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. till service time. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
