 John M. Rusnak
April 30, 1942 – May 25, 2016

John Michael Rusnak, 74, of South Bend passed quietly at his home after years of deteriorating health. John was born in Philipsburg, PA to Anna (Johnson) and George Rusnak who preceded him in death along with his beloved brother, George, who was killed in action in Vietnam.
He leaves behind his wife, Joan, whom he married 53 years prior and five children, John Jr. (Anne) of Carbondale, CO, David (Marjan) of Santa Cruz, CA, Stephanie Peirce (Rob) of Sewickley, PA, Jennifer Phillips (Carl) of South Bend, and Catherine Rusnak of Aspen, CO. He also leaves his seven grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, Neill, Christopher, Giselle, Lenka, and Nils. His family was his joy.
John was a graduate of Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, PA and went on to work for E.J. DuPont and the Masonite Division of International Paper as Technical Services Manager. He was a kind and generous man with a wicked sense of humor. Despite his love of Tom Brady and the Patriots, he managed to help raise five children into proper Steeler/Bronco fans. He was defiant and brave when it came to the honor of his family. He loved a good conversation and he could tell a good story.
The family would like to thank the many dedicated care givers who came into our lives, especially those with Grace Hospice who helped us send him on his way. A special thank you goes out to Sister Emmanuel of the Handmaids of the Most Holy Trinity who brought him peace and joy.
Cremation has taken place and in honoring his wishes there will be no service at this time. There will be a private celebration of life in Pennsylvania at a later date. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.

I extend my love and sympathy to my sister Joan and all my nieces and nephews and their families. John was generous and always ready to go out of his way to help friend or stranger. I know that he is held in the arms of a loving God for eternity.
