Robert W. Juday, 93, passed away on May 12th, 2016, at his home in Granger, IN. He was born on April 2nd, 1923 in Chicago, IL to the late Glenn W. and Pauline H. Juday. He was also preceded in death by his sister; Eleanor L. Lott. Robert grew up in Goshen, IN and graduated from Goshen High School in 1941. After high school he attended the University of Notre Dame, where he played both varsity baseball and football. He then joined the Army in 1943 and served for 3 years in both American and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters of WWII, with the 198th Signal Photo where he traveled to France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Okinawa, Tokyo, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded with European-African Middle Eastern W/2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and Victory Medal. He then completed his degree in business commerce from the University of Notre Dame in 1947, and immediately began to work for Associates Investment Company in South Bend, whom he worked for nearly 40 years till retirement as Vice President in 1987. Robert married Elaine M. Jordan in October of 1947 in South Bend, IN, where they were happily married for nearly 60 years. Robert was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in South Bend. Robert enjoyed playing sports and was blessed with athletic abilities that enabled him to compete in football, baseball, softball, golf, and coached his son’s in Little League. Later in retirement his endless joy was proudly cheering for his grandchildren’s participation in sporting and school events.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Gayle (Danny) Maiuri of South Bend, two sons, Craig (Deidra) Juday of Kirkland, OH and David (Barb) Juday of South Bend, eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Sarah (Marcus) Reed, Emily (Jacob) Pleger, Adam, Amy Juday, Brooke and Joshua and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 16th at the funeral home with Rev. D. Richard Stuckwich officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
