 Howard S. Stahl, 85, of South Bend died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in his home with his family and a dedicated staff of Great Lakes care hospice with him. Howard was born February 24, 1930 in Dowagiac, MI to the late Mary (Rowe) and Otto Stahl and was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Stahl; and siblings, Beverly Panzack, Myrene Slabaugh, Debbie Lilly Stahl and Fred Stahl. On July 24, 1954 he married the former Wilma A. Vail who died on November 20, 2014. They shared 60 wonderful years together and are now in eternity forever. He is survived by his children, Debra A. Miller (J.T.) and Walter H. Stahl both of South Bend; two grandchildren, Michelle Miller and Shelby Johnson; six great- grandchildren Amber, Steven, Victor, Arlen, Rouke and Kenneth; and a special friend Sandy Daniels.
Howard served in the united States Army from 1950 – 1954 and retired from Colip Electric as a driver. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church for 42 years. Howard was a lifelong supporter of anything Notre Dame enjoyed watching Notre Dame and the Chicago Cubs, gardening, fishing, camping and being with his family. The family would like to thank those who stayed until his death, Sandy Daniels, long time neighbor, Ed, Mary, Cristy, Karen (Great lakes) and Mother Terri Bays of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Howard was a lifelong supporter of anything Notre Dame.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. As per his wishes cremation will be in the Welsheimer Crematory.
