 Margaret A. Ringer

Margaret Ann Ringer, 97, of South Bend died Saturday, August 15th at Sanctuary at Holy Cross. Mrs. Ringer was born August 13, 1918 in Indianapolis to the late Nell (Dill) and George Frisz and had lived in South Bend since 1980 coming from North Vernon, IN. On January 28, 1946 in South Bend as Margaret A Frisz she married James H. Ringer who preceded her in death September 15, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph E. Ringer in 1994; two sisters, Kathleen Nice and Ruth Meyers; and three brothers, Thomas, John, and Richard Frisz. Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Jeanie Metzger (Bruce) of South Bend and Janet Hoffer (Brian) of Nappanee, IN; four grandchildren, James Metzger (Melanie Pride) of Carmel, IN, Rebecca Ehrgott (Chris) of Fishers, IN, Erin Hoffer of Chicago, IL and Kerry Hoffer from Nappanee, IN; and two great-grandchildren, Kellan Ehrgott and Tabitha Metzger; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Margaret (“Marge”) grew up in several cities in the Midwest, including Kansas City, Omaha and Indianapolis, as her father was transferred to various areas as a sales representative for Studebaker. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Indianapolis and then moved to South Bend where she worked in Mishawaka at the Accounting Office at Wheelabrator Corp. during World War II.

After her marriage, she and James “Bud” moved to North Vernon, Indiana where they raised their three children. In North Vernon she taught school at St. Mary’s grade school and then retired from Platter Furniture where she worked for 11 years as Office Manager. After she and Bud retired, they moved to South Bend where they lived close to all their children. Marge enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and reading. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching and cheering for IU in basketball and Notre Dame in football.

Marge was a dedicated caregiver to her family and always maintained a wonderful attitude about life in general and possessed a wonderful sense of humor which she never hesitated to share with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish in South Bend.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Sanctuary at Holy Cross for the wonderful attentive care they provided Marge during the time she spent there, and also to the staff of the Center for Hospice Care for their excellent care.
