Donald N. Rink

Oct. 12, 1933 - May 29, 2015 GRANGER

Donald Nelson Rink, 81, of Granger, Indiana, died at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka on Friday, May 29, 2015. Donald was born October 12, 1933, in Hudson Lake, Indiana, to Arthur and Evelyn Rink. Donald attended New Carlisle High School and graduated in 1951. He joined the United States Army in 1955 and spent two years in Japan while in the service. Donald was very proud of and truly enjoyed his time in the service and often looked back at old photo albums that his mother put together for him. On January 28, 1961, Donald married Michaelene Lewandowski, of Hammond, Indiana. In 1961, Donald purchased South Bend Rubber Stamp Company, which eventually became Rink Riverside Printing. After raising her children, Michaelene joined him in the family business and ran Plastimatic Arts Corporation. Donald retired in 1989 at the age of 56. Throughout his life, but especially after retirement, Donald enjoyed all outdoor activities. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and duck hunter, and even ventured out on the ice to do wintertime fishing as well, usually accompanied by his faithful companion dog, Roxy. He enjoyed a wonderful and active life. Donald will especially be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and outgoing personality. He never met a person he did not like. Donald was a member of the Mercator Club of South Bend, The Michiana Craftsman Club, Ducks Unlimited, and a charter member of Knollwood Country Club. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beverly Autry and Joyce Zielinski. He is survived by his wife, Michaelene; three children, Michael (Cindy) Rink, Timothy (Lisa) Rink, and Michelle Rink Dobski; and his eight grandchildren: Austin, Olivia, Evan, and Elena Rink; Jessica and Jason Rink; and Grace and Noah Dobski. Also surviving is his sister, Patti (Edward) Heston, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, on Wednesday, June 3, from 3:00 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend.
