 Grant T. Clarke, 93, of South Bend died Thursday January 13, 2015 in his residence with his family by his side. Mr. Clarke was born January 29, 1921 in Rochester, New York to the late George C. and Gertrude (Thorne) Clarke. On December 18, 1943 he married the former Jean E. Emery in Toledo, Ohio and they were married for 71 years. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Dervin (Joseph) of Goshen, IN; a son, Gary Clarke (Candice) of South Bend; four grandchildren Grant Clarke of Chicago, Caitlin Clarke of Carmel, IN, Melissa Weaver of Indianapolis, IN and David Dervin of Goshen, IN; and four great grandchildren.

In 1925 he moved to Toledo, Ohio where he attended grade and high school. He graduated from Tri State College in Angola, IN in 1942 with his degree in Electrical Engineering. He came to South Bend in 1942 and worked for the Bendix Aviation Corp. He was a technical representative for Bendix during World War II in Africa and Italy and for two and one half years was attached to the United States Air Force. Grant retired from Bendix in 1980. Grant and his wife Jean were members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years and was a member of the Senior Management Club of Bendix.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. The family would like to especially thank the Heartland Hospice and the caregivers of Home Instead for their devoted service. E-Mail condolences may be made at www.welsheimer.com.

Dear Jean, Gary, Patti, and other family members,

Please accept my sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. It
is wonderful you had 71 years together.
I remember Grant being kind and handsome when I came over to see Patti and Gary.
My mother is 95 and still living on Cripe st. in Roseland.
Mike and I only have one child, a son, who is a Police Officer in So. Bend.
Our daughter, Amy, passed away 10 years ago.
We live at Diamond Lake in Cassopolis, MI. Fondly, Kathy
