Former South Bend resident, Regeina Gates, 79, of Mishawaka, died at 10:18 a.m. Thursday, November 13th, in Golden Living Fountainview following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Gates was born April 18, 1935, in South Bend, and was raised by her mother, the late Margaret (Bensley), and stepfather, Renolt Williams, and was a lifetime area resident. On November 23, 1958, in South Bend, she married William C. Gates, who died November 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her children, Yvonne Gates in 1959, Terry Gates in 1961, William Gates in 1969, and Kent Gates in 2004; and a sister, Sharon Williams. She is survived by a sister, Kathryn Stitsworth (Larry) of Mishawaka; a brother, Edward Williams (Ann) of South Bend; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Regeina loved to cook, so much so that she often helped at Hope Rescue Mission. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and attending church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., with Rev. Mark Muncy of Ireland Road Church of God officiating. Committal services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.
