 Michael Roy Riffel

Michael Roy Riffel, 59, of 210 E. Cripe St., Roseland, IN, beloved son, husband, father, brother and friend was welcomed into the arms of God at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, November 11th surrounded by his family.  Michael was born to Jack L. and Ella M. (Fokey) Riffel in South Bend and was raised in Roseland.  He graduated from Christ the King Catholic School and then attended Clay High School.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Sonja, who he married in Hamilton, New Zealand on March 18, 2005.  He is also survived by his son Jack M. Riffel of Niles, MI and his daughter, Liila Sunshine; daughter Trisha Gonzagowski of Charlestown, AR and her daughter Kayla Hale; mother Ella M. Riffel of South Bend; sisters, Becky and husband Edwin Johnston of South Bend and Judy and Maurice Gates of Cleveland, TN; step-daughter Marrissa and husband Andrew Flogdell of Hamilton, New Zealand; and his two “girls” Sassie and Cordie.  Mike Spent the greater part of his life in his home built by the Riffel and Fokey families in 1949.  Mike worked for many years for the City of South Bend in the street department as a master mechanic where he retired after twenty three years.  Mike will be remembered for his charm, wit, and smile that would light up the room.  Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. at the corner of Hickory Rd. with Rev. Michael Matthews CSC officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park where he will be placed next to his father, Jack.  Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday, November 15th in the funeral home.
