Gary Allen Nordlie, of South Bend, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 17, 2014 at the age of 62 following a brief illness. Gary was born January 18, 1952 in Detroit, MI to the late Elizabeth J. (Luke) and Fred A. Nordlie and had lived in South Bend since the early 1990’s. He is survived by a sister, Barbara J. Bowden (James) of Valparaiso, IN; three brothers, Dr. Robert Nordlie (Diana) of San Antonio, TX, Dale Nordlie of New Buffalo, MI and Richard Nordlie of Royal Oak, MI; Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a special uncle, James O. Nordlie of Birmingham, MI.

Gary was a long-time resident at Portage Manor of St. Joseph County Homes in South Bend. They were his second family. Gary loved to dream about travel and would spend hours copying airline schedules and inventing fabulous adventures. He adored the Three Stooges and their zany antics. But above all he loved his family and always stayed in close contact. Gary’s laugh was large, his heart even larger and his faith was simple, great and true.

His memorial service will be held at a later date. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Please honor Gary's memory with donations to Portage Manor, 3016 Portage Ave., South Bend, IN, 46628. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at
