Audrey Eslinger

March 28, 1935 – May 9, 2014

Audrey L Eslinger, 79, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away, May 9, 2014 at Michiana Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mishawaka after a long and brave battle against cancer. Surrounded by family and friends she enjoyed life with a sense of humor and grace until the very end.

A lifelong resident of the South Bend/ Mishawaka area Audrey was born in Mishawaka to Alvin and Oliver Mahler Goss. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1953 and immediately went to work at Studebaker first as a runner on the factory floor and later as a personal assistant in the corporate headquarters. A lifelong automotive enthusiast she fittingly met Bill Eslinger while cruising in her beloved Studebaker Convertible through downtown South Bend. They were married On January 12, 1957. Bill preceded her in death on August 6, 1980.

Together Bill and Audrey borrowed money from both of their parents and open Eslinger’s TV which later became Eslinger’s Furniture and Appliance on the south side of South Bend in 1958. Over the next 30 plus years Audrey worked in support of the business in a wide capacity of roles while simultaneously raising her kids and later helping to raise her grandchildren.

Audrey is survived by her two children Tom Eslinger and his wife Rose of Granger and Kim Clarke of Seattle Washington. She is also survived by four grandchildren Chris Eslinger, Brittany Eslinger and Dave Eslinger all of South Bend and John Clarke of Seattle as well as 3 great grandchildren.

Audrey’s family would like to express their most sincere gratitude for the loving care that the staffs of both Michiana Health and Rehabilitation and Harbor Light Hospice provided her in her final day.

A celebration of Audrey’s life will take place on Thursday May 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend Indiana. I wish to offer my sympathy to the family. I am distantly related; my grandfather was a brother to Audrey's father, Alvin (Elmer Goss). My mother, Virginia Goss Brown, would also like to express her sympathy. Sincerely, Marcia Brown Rettinger
