                                                                               Doris M. Nemeth

April 22, 1921 – October 6, 2010



Former South Bend resident Doris M. Nemeth, 89, of Mishawaka died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 in Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.  Mrs. Nemeth was born April 22, 1921 in Dewitt, Iowa to the late Dorothy (Ross) and Russell Young and was a lifetime area resident.  On February 8, 1946 in South Bend as Doris M. Young she married Stephen J. Nemeth who preceded her in death April 8, 1992.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Bennet and a brother, Robert Young.  She is survived by her son, Stephen J. Nemeth, II; two granddaughters, Nicole Katlun (Casey) of South Bend and Chelsea Nemeth of Edwardsburg, MI; and a number of nieces and nephews including Kandy Keller (Rich) of Lake Zurich, IL, Larry Lemke (Patty Carsen) of Stevensville, MI and Charles Nemeth of Virginia Beach, VA.  Mrs. Nemeth retired from the South Bend Community School Corporation after 34 years as a Crossing Guard, primarily at the corner of Vassar and Diamond Avenues.  She was a long time member of Evangelical Covenant Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #435 Auxiliary of which she served as a past president.  Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 11th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Rev. Brad Hill officiating.   The family will greet friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Rd., Mishawaka, IN, 46545.  Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at

Steve, and family , I am sorry to hear about your mother passing away, She was a really nice sweet person . John and I both really liked her a lot. It's hard to lose a loved one,but I see it as we didn't lose a loved one, but that they found their loved ones on the other side . I'm sure that John , your dad and the rest of your family was there to greet her! Again my condolences. Teri Nowakowski

I am so sorry for your loss Steve. She was such a incredible woman. She had such a beautiful laugh and a twinkle in her eye. Be blessed in knowing she is with our loved ones. God bless you and your family.
