Willis R. Garrett

July 2, 1925 – January 23, 2014

Willis R. Garrett, 88, of South Bend, passed away quietly in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer, on Thursday, January 23, 2014, in his residence. Willis was born July 2, 1925, in Bremen, Indiana to the late Fred and Emma Marie (Mellott) Garrett. He was also preceded in death by a son, Randy Garrett, sisters, Lois Fenyvest, Maxine Lonzo, and brother, Lowell Garrett. On August 29, 1969 in South Bend, Willis married Melinda (Smith) who survives. Also surviving are sons, Job (Lisa) Garrett, of South Bend, Sean Garrett, of Big Sur, California, John Garrett and Fred Garrett. Willis proudly served his country during WW II with the United States Navy. He retired from Bendix Corp. after 38 years of service. Willis was a former member of V.F.W. and American Legion, in Bremen. He enjoyed bow and arrow hunting, fishing, bowling, watching NASCAR, but most important to him was looking after the love of his life, Melinda. He was a terrific husband and father, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Willis’s wishes were there will be no viewing or services. Cremation will take place at Welsheimer Crematory.
