Helen B. Nurenberg, (Grandma H.) 95, of Mishawaka passed away Sunday morning in Golden Living Center – Fountainview, Mishawaka. Mrs. Nurenberg was born May 27, 1918 in Michigan City, IN to the late William C. and Mabelle (Johnson) Williams. On August 31, 1940 in South Bend she married Karl O. Berkheiser who died in 1966. On November 20, 1971 she married Sigmund Nurenberg who died in 1997. Also preceding her in death was a brother Henry “Hank” Williams who is survived by his widow, Marsha of Louisville, KY. Helen is survived by a daughter Sue Disbrow, widow of Dick Disbrow of Mishawaka; son Mike Berkheiser (Melody) of Oregon; five grandchildren, Paula Nate (Michael), Joyce Whiteman, John Kearns, Sherri Kearns Sparks, and Michelle Porter, nine great-grandchildren, Cal and Antonio Nate, Chad and Valerie Whiteman, Bridgette and David Sparks, Victoria, Katelyn, and Kaileigh Porter; and two great- great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Alainah Nate. Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Alice Lambert and the late (Bill Lambert) of Minnesota, Jane Jernstrom (Tom) of Elkhart, IN and her extended family among many, Tom Walsh (Sandy) and family of Granger and Dan Zeiger (Lynne) and family of Bremen, IN. Helen retired from the Northern Indiana Children’s Hospital where she held many jobs. Helen loved to paint and won many awards. She has paintings around the world. She won 1st prize in a nationwide Christmas card contest at the Atria Living Centers, among many of her awards. Helen had a contagious smile and loved everyone she met. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday November 23, 2013 in Peace Lutheran Church, 16791 Cleveland Rd. with Pastor Steven Mischke officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Cremation has taken place according to her wishes and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
