SOUTH BEND - Virgil F. Arndt, 94, of South Bend, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at Signature Rehabilitation Healthcare, South Bend. Virgil was born August 24, 1919, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Dessie Mae (DuBois) Arndt. He was also preceded in death by a son, Virgil Arndt Jr.; sister, Rosalie Strong; and brother, Marion Arndt. On July 10, 1944, in South Bend, Virgil married Mary G. (Dietl), who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Edward (Ruth Gaby) Arndt of South Bend, Richard (Sandra) Arndt of Cassopolis, MI, and Mark (Joyce) Arndt of St. Cloud, FL; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela, and Ashleigh; four great-grandchildren, Curtis, Cassidy, Adam Jr., and Kaitlyn; and sister, Lillie Mae Lamorandier of Kalamazoo, MI. Virgil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He worked as a tool and die maker for Garvin Bros. Inc. for forty-three years, was a former member of VFW Post 624, Post 1167, and Clay Democratic Club. Virgil was raised on a farm in Mattawan, Michigan. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, but mostly being with his family. He helped many and loved all people. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October, 18, 2013, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 3:00 till 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
