Carl H. Roempagel

December 9, 1935 – October 3, 2013

 

 

Carl Henry Roempagel, 77, of South Bend died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roempagel was born December 9, 1935 in South Bend to the late Blanche (Mead) and Carl H. Roempagel and was a lifetime area resident. On March 27, 1959 in Olivet, France he married Judith A. Beamer who survives. Also surviving are his children, Beth Dinsmore (Mark) of Carmel, IN and Mark C. Roempagel of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren, Tracy Williams (Andy), Stacey Floran (David), Holly Brown, Kevin Brown, Ilsa Roempagel, Kyle Roempagel, and Alexis Dinsmore; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marie E. Crull (Bill) of South Bend, Carol Sue Grodey (Jerry) of Niles, MI and Ann G. Kovatch (Stephen) of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vern E. Roempagel in 1983.

 

Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a custom home designer and builder with his son, grandsons and nephews in the South Bend area for more than 50 years. Carl served in the United States Army in France. Carl was a firefighter with the German Township Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years, serving more than 10 years as Chief of the Department. Carl enjoyed dining out, and spending time with friends and family as well as his high school classmates. Carl's hobby was building beautiful homes. Carl's main focus in life was caring for and assuring the success of his loving family.

 

Per Carl’s wishes private family services will take place with cremation to follow. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
