August 10, 1915 – June 19, 2013

Betty M. Kent Gerhold, 97, of South Bend died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in her residence at Southfield Village.  Mrs. Gerhold was born August 10, 1915 in Pontiac, MI to the late Myra (Voorheis) and O.B. Goss and had lived in the South Bend area most of her life.  On August 6, 1938 in South Bend as Betty M. Goss she married Robert C. Kent who preceded her July 6, 1978.  On March 2, 1984 she married William E. Gerhold who preceded her in death December 22, 2008.

Betty is survived by her son, Robert Kent (Kathy) of Folsom, CA; stepson, Bruce Gerhold (Joanne) of Bartlesville, OK; granddaughters, Sarah Buescher (Matt) of Folsom, Katie Boden (Patrick) of Citrus Heights, CA, Betsey Willis (David) of Texas, Sally (Greg) of London, England, and Karen Horn of Niles, MI; great-granddaughters, Hailey Buescher and Alexa Boden; niece, Carol Hemenway of Decatur; and nephews, James (Patty) Goss of Dowagiac, MI, and Tom, John, and Patrick Gerhold all of South Bend.  She was preceded in death by her constant companion and best friend, her little Corgi, Stubby.

Betty was a long time active, faithful member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.  She will long be remembered for her baking, especially at Christmas with her very special Kolaches.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Rev. Deb Hewitt of Southfield Village officiating.  Committal services and entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1836 Portage Ave., South Bend, IN, 46616 or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.

To Those I Love

When I am gone, just release me,

Let me go – so I can move into my afterglow.

You mustn’t tie me down with your tears;

let’s be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love you can only guess

how much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it’s time I traveled on alone.

So grieve for me awhile, if grieve you must,

Then let your grief be comforted with trust.

It’s only for a while that we must part,

so bless the memories within your heart.

And then, when you must come this way alone,

I’ll greet you with a smile and a “Welcome Home.”

We were sorry to hear of your loss. Betty and my dad were resilient people to live well into the 90's. They made quite a pair for many years of happiness. Like my father, the time had come, but that is of little consolation.
We are making a donation to the church in lieu of flowers.
Call you soon.

All the Best
Bruce and Joanne

Bob,

So sorry for your loss. Your mother was always a very kind and friendly person. No doubt she and Bea Gordy are back together and keeping track of what the boys are getting into!
