Hal K. James

May 10, 1954 – May 9, 2013

Hal K. James, 58, of South Bend died Thursday, May 9, 2013.  Hal was born May 10, 1954 in Milan, TN to the late Connie May (Long) and William Harold Kremin and had lived in South Bend most of his life.

On August 6, 1977 in South Bend he married Carolyn S. Hes who survives.  Also surviving are two sons, Mathew James (Allison) of South Bend and Stephen James of Indianapolis, IN; and his sister, Patti Wilburn (Blaine) of Murfreesboro, TN.

Hal was a man who loved his family, his friends, and his dogs; Maggie May (the muskrat) the late Seger and Cody.  He was an avid angler who loved telling fish tales and spending time outdoors.  Things that brought him joy in life included spending time with his wife, children, tailgating for Notre Dame football games, and general shenanigans.    He was loved by those who knew him and left a lasting impression on all who met him.  He volunteered at Chet Waggoner Little League for nearly 20 years and had a division in the senior league named in his honor.

A memorial service celebrating Hal’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14th in Clay Church, 17646 Ironwood Rd., South Bend with Rev. Herb Buwalda officiating.  The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, May 13th.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Chet Waggoner Little League.  Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.

Dearest Carol, Mat, Allison and Stephen,
We are so very sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Simon and I have been so fond of your family for years. Although we haven't seen one another since our move to England, the James family has always held a special place in our hearts. Please know our prayers are with you all.

Dear family,
We only had Hal in our lives for a short time but in that time we enjoyed every time we had with him. He was easy to talk to and was always happy to see us as we were him. He will be missed but cherish the wonderful memories you have. God Bless, Dale and Olga Berta

My thoughts and prayers are with the James family in this time of need. Hal was a great man and he will truly be missed. I will always remember the times I was lucky enough to go fishing with him and sad it could not have been more!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I know Hal because he worked with my husband, Gary Davis, at the airport. Hal was such a good and gentle man. I loved his sense of humor. You will be in my prayers and thoughts in the upcoming days as I lost my husband to a heart attack as well. Should you need to talk, please don't hesitate to email me. God bless you. Hold Hal close to your heart. He is with you always.

My prayers are with the family at this difficult time. I've been working at the airport since 1993. Hal always made me laugh. Anytime I asked him to do something he was there. I will miss him very much. The airport will not be the same without him.

Carolyn, Matt and Steve,

We are so sad to hear of Hal's passing. Hal ALWAYS had a smile on his face or some interesting tale to tell. Hal was a kind and funny man and the boys looked up to him. Jim and I will always remember our last visit with your both. It was at the Mabry wedding that we sat and talked and really got to know one and other. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. May God give you all the strength to move forward and heal. God Bless you Hal

My condolence to the James Family. The James family was always wonderful to live just down the block from. I will also remember Hal at Chet Waggoner Little League. And Baseball with my brother and the boys! Or even the little wave he would give once he drove past the house! My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time!
