Thomas L. O’Brien

March 28, 1941 – February 4, 2013

 

Thomas L. O’Brien, 71, of South Bend passed away Monday February 4, 2013 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.  He was born March 28, 1941 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Virginia (Brown) O’Brien.  Also preceding him was a brother Edward.  On January 14, 1961 in South Bend he married the former Ruth S. Bergl who survives along with his daughters Jodie Montana (David) of Troy, MI, Carmen Hinz (Thomas) of South Bend.  5 grandchildren Paige, Brooke and Connor Montana, Tommy and Mitchell Hinz.  His brother Michael O’Brien of Albany, GA.  Thomas special brother-in-laws Larry Bergl (Alberta), Dallas Bergl (Mona), and Max Bergl and many loving Nieces and Nephews.  Tom was a special friend to everyone who crossed his Journey here on earth.  He retired from the Kroger’s Food store as Produce Manager after 30 years’ service.  He was a loving and devoted husband and father, enjoyed camping in Gaylord, MI, reading, gardening and his work.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 8, 2013 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home 17033 Cleveland Rd.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today in the Funeral Home

I was very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. He was one of the finest men I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with. Our paths would occassionally cross since we had left Kroger and it was the bright spot in my day. I consider myself lucky to have had him as a part of my life. All the best to you.
