A Testimonial to Mother

JEANNE ELIZABETH (RUPP) GARDNER

Jeanne was called home to her heavenly father on December 23, 2012 at the age of 82 after a 2 year battle with cancer.

Jeanne was born in Dubuque, Iowa on December 20, 1930 to Lillian and Joseph Rupp and was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Dubuque. While working for John Deere Corporation in her hometown, she met and married Allen D. Gardner on July 13, 1957 and moved to South Bend, IN. She was the loving mother of 4 children and is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Allen, along with her daughter Carol (Jepson) of Birchwood, WI; son, Stephen Gardner (Laurel) of Oswego, IL ; daughter, Ann Gardner-Roehrkasse (Robert)of Pewaukee, WI; and daughter-in-law, Marcia (Mackey) Gardner (Minneapolis, MN). She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margaret Rupp, and her brother, John Rupp. She was also tragically preceded in death by her son, David Allen Gardner.

Jeanne will also be sadly missed by her 6 grandchildren: her son Stephen's three children, Jessica, Zachary, and Courtney Gardner; her daughter Ann's 2 son's, Alexander and Joseph Roehrkasse, and her late son David's only child, Matthew David Gardner. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemary (Rupp) Larkin of Des Moines, IA, and her brother, Thomas Rupp (Anne) of Fort Collins, CO.

The hallmark of Jeanne's life was her devotion to her family and to her Catholic faith. She attended mass daily at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend where she had served on the parish counsel and volunteered countless hours to various school and church activities. During her children's school years at Christ the King she began volunteering in the school office and went on to be employed as the school secretary and then the parish bookkeeper for a number of years. After retiring from work in the rectory, she continued to voluntarily assist retired clergy at Holy Cross House at Notre Dame.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 Indiana 933, South Bend at 10 A.M. on Friday, December 28, 2012. Visitation will be held at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN, on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M.

The family would like to convey its sincere thanks to Chris and staff at The Center for Hospice Care for their caring and compassion. If desired, memorials can be made in Jeanne's name to The Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
