Margaret A. Grant

February 22, 1910 – September 21, 2012

 

 

Margaret Anna Grant, 102, of South Bend died peacefully at 6:25 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 in her residence.  Mrs. Grant was born February 22, 1910 in Galien, MI to Anna A. (Warnke) and Currie S. McLaren, graduated from Galien High School in 1926 and had lived in South Bend since 1926.  She was Miss Galien of 1928.  On September 17, 1933 as Margaret A. McLaren she married Robert A. Grant who preceded her in death March 2, 1998.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Soderberg and her brother, Fred McLaren.  She is survived by her son, Robert A. Grant, Jr. (Sally) of Walnut Creek, CA; two granddaughters, Catherine Grant and husband Roger Bartlett of Belmont, MA and Jennifer Grant and husband, Andrew Stack of Palo Alto, CA; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe, and Zadie Stack; her sister, Eleanor Sherman of Lake Dallas, TX; and her son-in-law, Bill Soderberg of South Bend.  Margaret had been employed as a secretary for the Associates Corporation many years ago by which she helped finance her husband Bob’s first campaign for Congress.  She was a long time active member of First United Methodist Church, South Bend.  She was also a member of Lakeville Chapter #479 Order of Eastern Star, Lakeville, IN,  the Schuyler Colfax Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Messiah Shrine #10, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Friends of the Snite Museum all of South and Former Members of Congress Auxiliary and The Congressional Club both of Washington, DC.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 28th in First United Methodist Church, 333 N. Main St., South Bend with Rev. Mary Hubbard officiating.  The family will receive friends in the church Gathering Room immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 333 N.
