Carl W. Tomlinson

Carl William Tomlinson, 89, of Michigan City, IN., passed away Thursday August 4, 2011 in Hospice House, South Bend. Carl was born January 8, 1922 in South Bend, to the late Roy and Mildred (Pinckert) Tomlinson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Morris Tomlinson, one niece and one nephew. On July 15, 1941 in Michigan City, Carl married June (Hermance), his loving wife of seventy years, who survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Denyse (Ken) Voltz of Michigan City, one grandson, Patrick (Christine) Voltz of Michigan City, three great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Jarrett, and Mackenzie Voltz, one niece and eight nephews. He was a 1940 graduate of Isaac C. Elston High School, Michigan City. Carl proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He retired as a meat cutter from Jewell, and Thrifty Mart in Michigan City. Carl was a devoted husband, caring father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his hobby of leather carving, and taught classes at Tandy Leather Store in Merrillville, IN. for ten years. Funeral services will be held 2 pm. Monday, August 8, 2011 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, with Steve Nani officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon till time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Michigan City.
