 Libby Rasmussen

Metamora- Elizabeth Ann (Gift) Rasmussen 56, of Metamora, Illinois passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning on the 23 of July 2011 in the arms of her loving husband. Libby was born August 16, 1954 in Peoria, Illinois to John "Jack" and Lorraine Gift. She married Robert J. Rasmussen on June 24, 1978 at First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, Illinois. He survives. Libby's loving family include her husband Rob, her daughter Amanda (Patrick) Shane, her sons Erik (Mikayla) Rasmussen and Blake (Ashley) Rasmussen; her grandchildren Camerin (8), Jadeyn (6), Peyton (4), Vincent (3) and Jordan (2). Also surviving are her mother Lorraine (Bill) Gift Bunker, her sisters Debbie (Jim) Sullivan, Laurie (MaryBeth Roemheld) Gift, Lisa (Douglas) Krauter, her nieces and nephews Carrie (Mike) Eakle, Brian Sullivan, Kristen (Jen Dittrich-Templin) Templin, Jonathan (Suzanne Hammond) Templin, Kenny and Heather Krauter. She was preceded in death by her father Jack Gift in 1997. Libby graduated from Peoria High School in 1972. She then attended Hanover College where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She graduated from Hanover with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1976. Libby was dedicated to her career as an educator in Peoria District 150 for nearly 25 years. During that time she touched the lives of both children and colleagues at Reservoir, Sterling, Tyng, Roosevelt and, most recently, Charter Oak, under the direction of her close friend John Wetterauer. Her passion for inspiring and enriching the lives of her students went far beyond her classroom. She gave them the tools to succeed not only with their education but also helping them reach their full potential in their everyday lives. Literacy was extremely important to her and she loved passing on the gift of reading to all of her children. Libby was a lifetime and third generation member of United Presbyterian Church (formally First Presbyterian Church) of Peoria, Illinois. As a devoted Christian woman, she carried out God's Word and work by serving as an Elder, a Deacon and member of numerous Session Committees over the years. She was an active leader and member of WATCH, One Way Up, Operation Inspiration, Vacation Bible School, and many more activities and programs. Her church family meant everything to her, and Libby's relationship with our Lord was the core of her being. It defined who she was; unwavering. Libby was not only an amazing wife; she was her husband's very best friend. Her children were blessed to have a wonderful mother, friend, role-model, cheerleader and teacher. Her memory lives on in our hearts and in the eyes of her precious grandchildren. She has left us, but she did not leave us unprepared. Her family was her life. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, July 28, at United Presbyterian Church, 2400 W. Northmoor Rd., Peoria. A memorial service celebrating her faith and life will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 29 at United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Randall Saxon officiating. The family requests that memorials be directed to United Presbyterian Church for the establishment of a District 150 Scholarship in her name, a memorial at Hanover College, and an outdoor nature classroom at UPC Discovery Pre-school. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.
