Brian Keith Tamke

Dec. 16, 1957 - Jan. 23, 2019

SOUTH BEND, IN - Brian Keith Tamke, 61, passed away in Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso on Wednesday morning, January 23. Brian was born in South Bend, Indiana. His parents were Paul and Evelyn Tamke. He attended school in South Bend and worked for Logan Industries for many years, after which he worked part-time with his brothers, Fred and Jim, in their accounting and law offices in South Bend.

Brian was very devoted to his family. Even though he was disabled, he lived life to the fullest and was always fun to be around. After his mother passed away in 2004, he was cared for by his older brother, Fred, who helped Brian with his daily activities and loved to take Brian to concerts in various cities throughout the Midwest, including Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Louisville, as well as Merrillville and South Bend -- especially when the Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, or Gaithers were in town. He was a very active person and big IU and Notre Dame fan. His hobbies included watching Notre Dame football, watching IU and Notre Dame basketball, watching WWF Wrestling, and watching old TV shows like Andy Griffith, I Dream of Jeannie, Sanford and Son, I Love Lucy, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke, as well as many others. He also enjoyed reading magazines like Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine.

Due to health reasons, Brian moved to Valparaiso in 2011 and was a resident of Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center where he was able to receive the 24/7 care that he needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Carl Tamke, who died in a drowning accident in 1963 at the age of seven, and his brother Fred Tamke, who died unexpectedly in 2016. He is survived by his brother, James Tamke of South Bend. He is also survived by several cousins throughout the Midwest and other states.
