Clarence F. “Red” Hutchings Jr., 89, of South Bend, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in his residence. Clarence was born January 8, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Clarence F. Hutchings Sr., and Edith (Jayne). He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Carson, and sister, Dolly Diffendorfer. On November 4, 1950 in South Bend, Clarence married Kathryn Jeanette (Enoch) who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Kathryn (Scott) Carson of South Bend, two sons, Timothy J. (June) Hutchings, and Brian (Jammie) Hutchings, both of South Bend, eight grandchildren, Kelly Carson, Gavin Carson, Jack Lewis, Mike Lewis, Mary (Wille) Luchowski, Jeff (Linda) Lewis, Timothy A. (Melissa) Hutchings, and Kyle Hutchings, thirteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. Clarence proudly served his country in the U S Army during the Korean War, as an army engineer. He retired from Bendix Aerospace Corp. in the fuel control department. Then spent his time with family, gardening, and on woodworking projects. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Tom Thews officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 p.m. Sunday, until the time of the service at 4:00. Cremation will follow the service, with private burial at Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
