SOUTH BEND - Mary Catherine (Mary Kay) McGinnity, 92, of South Bend died peacefully in her home Tuesday, December 19, 2017. She was born December 27, 1924 in Gary, Indiana to Anna M. (Hendle) and Charles F. McQuillin. On June 15, 1949 in Gary, she married Francis D. McGinnity, who died in 1975. She was preceded in death by infants, Mary A. and Joseph, and son, Timothy McGinnity in 2010. Mary is survived by daughters, Margaret Thomas of South Bend, Kathleen Erin of Metamora, IL, Jane McGinnity and Susan McGinnity both of Mesa, AZ, and Mary Elizabeth McGinnity of South Bend; sons, Michael (Linda) McGinnity of South Bend, Patrick (Tina) McGinnity of Gilbert, AZ, and Joseph (Cathy) McGinnity of Maricopa, AZ, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her 4 siblings, Francis J., James M., Charles R., and George F. McQuillin also preceded her in death. 

She graduated from St Mark's Grade School, Gary, IN in 1939, Catholic Central High School, Hammond, IN in 1943, and St Catherine's Hospital School of Nursing, East Chicago, IN in 1946, after which she attended St Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN. Mary retired from Memorial Hospital of South Bend in 1990 as a Registered Nurse. In earlier years she was a Ladies Auxiliary member of the Knights of Columbus, and most recently assisted in the church ministry for Funeral Lunches and Prayer Line. 

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Christ the King Catholic Church, where friends may visit one hour prior to Mass. Committal services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Dear Margaret and Family,

Our sincere condolences on the loss of your beautiful mother. Our hearts go out to you, especially this time of year. We lost my Dad on December 22nd, 4 years ago. May beautiful, silly, and happy memories comfort you in your time of grief.
