Thelma Eileen Spanos, 90, of South Bend died unexpectedly in her residence on Monday, November 27th. Mrs. Spanos was born March 10, 1927 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Belvia (Galbraith) and Martin Kelly and was a lifetime area resident. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathern J. Brandt; a grandson, Jason Brandt; and a sister, Juanita McCool; and brothers, Leroy, Delbert, Wayne, Donald, and Marvin Kelly. On May 11, 1956 in Iuka, MS she married George L. Spanos who survives. Also surviving is a grandson, Christopher G. Welker (Mindy Roberts) of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Charlotte, and Haley; son in law, Steven Brandt of Rolling Prairie, IN; and a sister, Leona Belle McLovain of Tampa, FL
Thelma attended First Brethren Church of South Bend. She had a number of interests including crocheting, singing and playing the organ but most of all loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother and was well known as being a “great grandmother”.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Rev. Fred Youngen officiating. Committal services and entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, November 29th and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
