Frederick A. Neuliep

November 3, 1926 – May 31, 2012

Frederick A. Neuliep, 85, of South Bend, passed away in his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. Frederick was born November 3, 1926, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to the late John and Martha Neuliep. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Neuliep. On December 18, 1948 in Chesterton, Indiana, Frederick married Norma (Griffin) who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Jack (Kitty) Neuliep, of Westville, IN and Steven (Tamara McIntosh) Neuliep of Asheville, NC, and daughter, Sandra (Chris) Freeman, of Dallas, TX. Fred served in the 6th Infantry Division with the U. S. Army. He made education his career as a teacher, coach and school principal. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, woodworking, and being with family and friends. Visitation will be held at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8th. Funeral services will be held at Lydick United Methodist Church, on Saturday June 9th at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. James Toole officiating. Cremation will be held at Welsheimer Crematory. Private burial will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 W. Edison Rd., South Bend, IN 46628, or to Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com

Fred was not only a great teacher and coach, but a good friend as well. It was always nice talking with him at the school reunions. He''''ll be missed!

Norma---You and Fred (Mr. Neuliep) had a wonderful life together (it appeared) and I feel so fortunate to be a small part of it! Enjoy the rest of your life and Fred will always be in my heart! Mr. N was one of the hardest working, most honest people I ever met. He put up with a lot of my non-traditional methods in the classroom and always tried to help. Mr. N was never above mopping the floor and spent much of his own money and time maintaining Rolling Prairie Elementary school when he was principal. I've not seen another principal as dedicated as he was. He had and still has my greatest respect. I am so sorry for your loss. He was truly a great man and I feel honored knowing him.
