Joan W. Jones

SOUTH BEND – Joan Weishaar Jones, 81, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Memorial Hospital. Joan was born in Chicago, IL in 1930, and later moved to Decatur, IL. Joan received her teaching degree from Milliken University, and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. On January 26, 1952 she married I. David Jones and soon after they moved to South Bend, IN. During the late 1960’s, Joan taught and was director at the Weekday Presbyterian Nursery School in Mishawaka, IN. She worked for many years as the office manager of the family business, Dave Jones Machinists, and later taught courses in Business Communication and Computer Technology at Ivy Tech Community College until her retirement in 1995. Joan enjoyed camping and going on day trips with her husband and two golden retrievers. She also enjoyed her years volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House at Memorial Hospital, and her luncheons with her Red Hat friends. Through the local Pi Phi alumni chapter, she made many lifelong friends and has enjoyed numerous events over the years. Joan is survived by her children, Kathy (Kevin) Butterbaugh of Granger, David (Jane) Jones of Granger, Sandy (Tom) Budd of Granger and Tom (Suzanne) Jones of Osceola and 19 grandchildren, Denise Montague (Travers) Houck, Chris Montague, Erin Montague, Joe Montague (Sarah), Eric (Jessica) Butterbaugh, Lisa Butterbaugh and fiancée Tony McGovern, Lauren Butterbaugh, Anna Butterbaugh, Kara Jones, Nina Jones, Aaron Jones, Cason Jones, Brian (Sarah) Budd, Danielle Budd, Jim Budd, Amanda Jones, Ashley Jones, Chandler Ankney, Mitchell Ankney and four great-grandchildren. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Betty (Moffett) Weishaar, husband, I. David Jones, and daughter, Susan Jones Montague. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm , March 12 in the First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN where friends may visit with the family after 11:30 am until time of service.
