Tom D. Christensen

October 8, 1945 – May 30, 2012

Tom David Christensen, 66, of South Bend, devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend passed away Thursday, May 30, 2012 in his residence.  Tom was born October 8, 1945 in Long Beach, CA to the late Marian (Tuttle) and Lester Christensen and had lived in South Bend since 1976 coming from Media, PA.  On June 22, 1968 in Plymouth, MI he married Suzanne McCully who survives.  Also surviving are three daughters, Jennifer Bell (Kenneth) of South Bend, Elizabeth Castillo (Joseph) of St. Paul, MN, and Katherine Hodgson (David) of Santa Maria, CA; his son, Justin Christensen (Sarah) of South Bend; and three sisters, Diane Roberson of Keene, NH, Jill Kidd of Beaumont, CA, and Joyce Marsh (Douglas) of Richland, Washington.  Tom dedicated his life to the service of others in his own home, community, and professionally.  He began his career teaching GED classes for the Job Corps in the 1960’s and retired as an award-winning writer and consultant in organizational design and development.  He was an active volunteer throughout his life, most recently delivering food for Meals on Wheels.  Tom was an encourager of dreams, teller of tales, playful, thoughtful, creative, and brave.  Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 4^th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Cremation will take place.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Soup Kitchen at First United Methodist Church, 333 N.
